Discover how this stylish couple celebrated their big day surrounded by family & friends, and backdropped by the incredible Lews Castle in Stornoway.
Wedding date: 9th July 2021
Venue: Lews Castle, Stornoway
Let’s start from the beginning – how did your parter propose?
We had been together around 7 years when we got engaged, and we were on holiday in Dubai. He’d actually bought the ring out there and so had to collect it when we got there. I was a little suspicious when he disappeared one morning to “sort something for our afternoon activity”, and when he came back with a beautiful pair of earrings, I was over the moon, but slightly disappointed thinking, …I’ll just need to keep waiting for the ring. Alas, the earrings were a decoy, and he had also collected the ring when he was out, so we had afternoon tea and when we arrived back to our hotel, the staff had decorated our room with rose petals, photos of us etc, and a big “will you marry me” on the bed, it was very cute, overwhelming…and there were lots of tears of joy from me.
Tell us all about your dress – any details you particularly love, how it made you feel, the moment you said YES!
I had actually “saved” the Enzoani Mercedes to my Instagram page a good few months before we got engaged because it was just so stunning. So, I showed Khara a few of the photos, and she told me you still stocked it, despite it being from the season prior. As soon as I put it on…I knew, it fit like a glove, the train was incredible, and I honestly felt like an actual princess!
Did you have an inspiration for your wedding decor? Theme, colour palette etc?
I am terrible in the creativity / small details department, but I do have 6 very creative bridesmaids who helped me massively along the way. I knew I wanted them to pick dresses which they all felt comfortable in and when they chose the deep red / burgundy colour, I guess that was sort of our theme. Really, I just knew I wanted really bright colourful flowers, and we were lucky that the venue didn’t need any decorating at all. The venue itself meant so much to me as I grew up on the Isle of Lewis, and the castle was inaccessible until around 2016 when it was completely renovated, so it was a dream to get married there.
We would love to hear a little more on your wedding day – your feelings/emotions/most memorable moment and anything else you want to include about your day!
It was just wonderful, I think even more emotional knowing it was the first time we had all been together in such a long time before Covid-19. I was fairly relaxed all morning, helped by the fact my bridesmaids and I have all been best friends since we were 11, so it was just a really fun, chilled morning. Once my dad arrived to see me though, that’s when the tears started – so I would say that was the most emotional part. Once we go those out of the way, I relaxed again, and seeing Chris’ face when I met him at the altar will be something I’ll always have happy memories of.
I was desperate to get to the beach for photos, and we were lucky the weather was in our favour, and because we all felt so comfortable in our dresses, it didn’t feel like it was too much of a struggle getting us all onto the beach etc at all.
Do you have any advice for our future Opus Brides?
Book your appointment at Opus before any others, and I can almost guarantee you won’t need to visit any other shops! The staff are absolute gold.
How was your Opus Experience?
Honestly – everything I had dreamed about and more. Khara just felt like another one of the girls, and she made everything feel so relaxed and easy! She knew what might look best on me, and also picked out dresses exactly like I had in mind.
